Pumpkin Ale

Wow, it has been awhile since I last blogged.  I have been quite busy lately, with working and going out of town several weekends in a row.  Ready to get back on track though with a festive Pumpkin themed post.  Pumpkin flavors and scents are one of my favorite parts about fall. When you hear the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks you know it’s almost that time of year again!

Last weekend I went to Boston and had Shipyard Pumpkin Ale for the first time.  It was delicious!  Especially with the cinnamon sugar rim and a splash of vanilla vodka.  You can see I was eager to taste the rim before I thought to take the picture!

I’m going to attempt to recreate this with a Pumpkin Ale that I picked up at Trader Joe’s and hopefully it will have the same great fall flavors!  Now off to light my pumpkin scented candle and wash my hands with my pumpkin hand wash.  Happy Fall!

Splurge vs. Steal

I’ll be honest, I like the finer things in life.  Who doesn’t?  ; ) But I am all about finding a good deal. Ever since I saw this outfit on Cupcakes and Cashmere I was curious about this blazer.  It’s available at Madewell for $138

I then saw this blazer from Forever 21.  It’s only $27.80!  Obviously the cut and material is much better on the Madewell version.  AND the polka dot look is big this season, but I’m not sure how long/many seasons I would wear a polka dot blazer.  Let’s be real, 27.80 is more on budget for me than $138.  To Forever 21 I go!

P&P: Photos & Pinterest

I’m into my first week of my photography e-course from Arrow & Apple!  My homework for the week is to get some supplies together and to start finding inspiration and photos that I would like to emulate.  What better way to organize my images than on Pinterest!

Follow me on Pinterest if you want to see what images I’ve been saving.  Also if you’ve got some great boards let me know!  I’m always looking for new people to follow!

Free Printables

So this past year I’ve seen lots of free printable templates online.  There are so many great ones out there.  It can add a nice touch to any gift, card, or craft.

Over at Love vs Design they have lots of free printables as well as a great shop where you can buy invitations & save the dates.  How great are these free printable recipe cards.

And these flags would be great for drink stirrers or to top cupcakes at a party.

Then at Everything Etsy they’ve complied a list of free printables from around the web that will cut down on your search time!   There are also lists for holiday, gift, and sewing ideas.

Happy printing!

A nautical couples shower

Last weekend I threw a couples shower for my good friends that are getting married soon (1 month away!)  Now one thing about me is that I like, no LOVE, to make things and be creative.  So decorating for a shower was right up my alley.

The soon to be Mr. & Mrs. the night they became engaged.

First I wanted to pick a theme- since this always makes planning go so much easier. I chose a nautical theme to match the navy color from the upcoming nuptials.

One thing I immediately discovered when perusing the web for ideas, is that this is a popular theme for a baby boys shower or boys birthday ages 1-6.

I didn’t let that discourage me though and decided to make the shower a little more sophisticated by adding in touches of gold and adult beverages.

So I got to work with my fellow bridesmaids and began planning food etc. But of course I wanted to make all the decorations myself!

Tissue Pom Garland  in progress

Needless to say I may have gone a little overboard (pun intended).  For some reason I have a hard time just choosing one type of garland or fringe.  So instead of just making one type of garland, I made 5.  FIVE! I incorporated some into the décor around the house and some I used in the backdrop for the photo booth.  I also made another tissue paper creation for the photo booth to go along with the garland.

I had guests leave a note on pretty paper in a jar that I got from Ikea that I painted with glass paint to say “Better Together” in a nice font. Better when we’re together is one of the brides favorite songs, so I thought that would be a nice phrase for the jar.

I found an anchor stamp at Paper Source that I used to stamp all the cards to label the beverages and food at the party. I also made little blue and white flags to go into the top of some mini cheesecakes that I made.

I made some props to along with a few others for use in the phooto booth with a free download that I found from Oh Happy Day.  Then I assembled my tissue paper & garland masterpiece to create the back drop.

The bride-to-be in front of the photo booth.

All in all it was a great time with good food, friends, and a great way to celebrate the soon to be wed couple.

Congratulations Mike and Allison!  Can’t wait for your big day!

I need more people to get married so I can make more stuff!!!!  Or start having babies, one of the two.

INSTAGRAM!

I recently got the new an iPhone, and I loooooove it!  They have an app on the phone called instagram, which is the best camera app.  You can take all sorts of photos and edit them so they have a vintage feel to them.

Here are a few of my photos.

Wedding Planning Part 1-Vendors

So I spent the last year and a half planning my wedding.  Which I can’t believe that you spend so much time planning for one day of your life!  It really should be a 4 day event.  So along the way I did quite a bit of research to make sure our wedding day was perfect.

We found the venue for the reception rather quickly at Primrose Cottage in Roswell, Georgia.

We got married at the Log Cabin Church of Vinings Georgia which is almost like a church taken out of the English countryside.

Our photographer was Kelly Cummings of SpindlePhotography.

She took the most AMAZING engagement and wedding photos.  I couldn’t have been happier with the way they turned out!

We chose The Highballs   based out of Athens Georgia to play at our reception.  Seriously the best wedding music I’ve ever heard!  They really got the crowd into it, and it was like you hired all of your favorite bands of all time to come play at your wedding.  Our first dance was to God Only Knows by The Beach Boys and it sounded perfect.  The first dance was better than I could have hoped for and the night only got better!

All in all we were both very happy with everyone who helped us have the best day of our lives!

Our first month

So this is my new husband and I’s first month of marriage.  I am now a Mrs. King, hence the name of this blog.

This week marks the first time that the hubs and I have been apart.  He has been away on travel for work, and I am at home attempting to force myself to complete a research paper.  Since he left yesterday though I have been rather creative and productive!  I’ve started rearranging things around the house and made a few small watercolor paintings.  The research paper though, has not gotten much attention.  Not great seeing how it’s due in 5 days.

Anyway back to the fun stuff!  Are you on Pinterest / Home.?  It’s a great website and a good place to store photos from websites and blogs that you love.  I’ve also been on Pinterest a lot the past couple of days further distracting me from that paper!

My blog will be about me, design, weddings, art, and home.  I’m so excited to learn how to work on my blog and I’m looking forward to sharing with you!

But before I go, check out the phone that was at the Ritz Carlton in our suite that we stayed at on our wedding night.

Whenever my husband and I see phones like this we refer to them as “Zack Morris phones”.

Alright people, back to this paper!
